Turn on the microphone
Speak needs the microphone. Tap Speak, then Allow if your phone asks. If nothing happens, use the settings for your phone below. Then come back here, reload, and tap Speak again.
Android (Chrome)
- Open this site in Chrome. Tap the lock next to the website address → Permissions → Microphone → Allow.
- Reload the page, then tap Speak.
- If that is already Allow: phone Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Microphone → Allow.
Speak usually works in Chrome on Android once the microphone is allowed.
iPhone (Safari or Chrome)
- Phone Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → turn on Safari or Chrome.
- Then Settings → Safari (or Chrome) → Microphone → Allow or Ask.
- In the browser, tap aA (Safari) or the lock (Chrome) → Website Settings → Microphone → Allow. Reload the page, then tap Speak.
On iPhone, Speak often still does not work even with the microphone on. Type or paste instead — the translation appears as you go.
